Case Study: Omega/Bachendorfs

CINDY CRAWFORD?!

(That got our attention, too.) When Swatch/Omega came to the Lone Star State to host a PR event surrounding a limited editionproduct, they needed B-roll for their Video News Release. Armed with two Panasonic HVX200 cameras and inspired by the mere thought of a supermodel sporting cowboy boots, we kicked up our heels and boot-scooted along to capture what was needed. We began in the Bachendorf’s Store in the Galleria for a meet and greet with Ms. Crawford, the brand ambassador. Smaller cameras helped us ensure a safe shoot around all those cases of high-end jewelry.

Next, we loaded up for the famous South Fork Ranch, where Ms. Crawford hosted the Cattle Baron’s Ball benefitting the American Cancer Society. We were to capture B-roll of the event, her speech, and set up for the press junket for ourselves and others to use. Though the VIP tent was a madhouse, we took a quick assessment of the situation, set up out of the way and captured all that was needed while maintaining respect for the celebrity, the guests, and the location.

Good thing we decided on small format HD and a tapeless P2 workflow beforehand. Despite the need for SD distribution, the small format HD allowed for a nimble crew and a super-quick turnaround with excellent source footage quality easily down converted to whatever the media outlets required.

So our team kicked their boots into high gear with a late night edit to deliver the final product in a matter of hours, only possible because the tapeless P2 workflow meant all the footage was available with a huge reduction in capture time. The small format HD enabled better than SD quality while remaining low profile in such a crowded environment. It yielded great SD dubs for media outlet distribution - important for any project, but absolutely essential with a VNR.

So when the sun set on this project (or came up as the case may be), it was a success on all sides - great end product, happy client - and hanging with Cindy Crawford didn’t hurt either.
